I have been an off-again on-again guitarists for years, going all the way back to middle school. I would never say I have been playing guitar for 20+ years, quite frankly my skills don’t reflect that, but it is something I have wanted to refocus on for a long time now. The current COVID 19 (SARS-COV-2) quarantine does have a silver lining in that it has given me the opportunity to make it a priority.
I have always been fascinated by one man bands in the traditional sense. A guy with a bass drum on his back, a tambourine on his head, guitar in hand and a kazoo in his mouth. They seem goofy to some, but I always admired the coordination and dedication it took to “play” all of those instruments at once and create a sound that is appealing. Others might disagree on how appealing it actually is, but it definitely deserves some level of appreciation.
More recently artists such as Ed Sheeran and Walk Off the Earth have captured my interest with live looping using digital pedals and computers, which totally appeals to my love of music and technology. As part of shifting my focus back to guitar I did a ton of research and picked up a Boss RC-300 Loop Station and decided to make my own attempt at doing a live loop cover. I chose Tash Sultana’s Jungle to start with since I already knew how to play parts of it and my its a really catchy tune.
After having the pedal for about an hour (I did play around with a Boss RC-1 previously so looping wasn’t completely new to me), my fiance and I were able to take a first attempt at our first cover. There wasn’t a whole lot of planning and I think this was our 3rd attempt so try not to judge too much. Hopefully you enjoy it…just like I do when I see a one man band…just appreciate it for it is.
